The Repairs Grants (Eligible Expense) Order (Northern Ireland) 1996

Coming into operation: 1st May 1996
The Department of the Environment, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Article 74(3) of, and paragraph 3(3) of Schedule 3 to, the Housing (Northern Ireland) Order 1992[^f00001] and of every other power enabling it in that behalf hereby makes the following Order:—
Citation, commencement and interpretation

- (1) This Order may be cited as the Repairs Grants (Eligible Expense) Order (Northern Ireland) 1996 and shall come into operation on 1st May 1996.
- (2) In this Order—
- “the Order” means the Housing (Northern Ireland) Order 1992; and
- “owner” has the meaning assigned to it by Section 2 of the Public Health (Ireland) Act 1878[^f00002].
Application

This Order applies to a repairs grant payable by the Executive[^f00003] towards the cost of works specified in a notice served in respect of a dwelling house under the Public Health (Ireland) Act 1878 where:—
- (a) the owner thereof (who also occupies it) makes an application for that grant in accordance with Schedule 3 to the Order; and
- (b) that notice is served;
on or after the coming into operation of this Order.
Specification of eligible expense

Except where the Department approves a higher eligible expense, the eligible expense for the purpose of a repairs grant shall be so much of the sum determined under paragraph 3(1) of Schedule 3 to the Order as does not exceed £500.

Explanatory note
(This note is not part of the Order).
Except where the Department approves a higher eligible expense, this Order specifies the maximum amount of eligible expense for the purposes of a repairs grant as £500 (formerly £5,500) in the case of grant applications made by owner-occupiers on or after 1st May 1996.
