Explanatory note
(This note is not part of the Order.)
This Order revokes the Beef (Emergency Control) Order (Northern Ireland) 1996 and the subsequent Order which amended it. Those Orders, which prohibited the sale for human consumption of meat from any bovine animal slaughtered after 28th March 1996 and which at the time of slaughter was more than 2½ years of age, were by their very nature temporary measures. They are replaced by measures contained in the Fresh Meat (Beef Controls) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1996 which come into operation at the same time as this Order.
