The Department of the Environment, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Article 1(3) of the Road Traffic Regulation (Northern Ireland) Order 1997[^f00001] and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and interpretation

(1) This Order may be cited as the Road Traffic Regulation (1997 Order) (Commencement No. 2) Order (Northern Ireland) 1998.

(2) In this Order “the Order” means the Road Traffic Regulation (Northern Ireland) Order 1997.

Appointed day

The day appointed for the coming into operation of the provisions of the Order specified in the Schedule shall be 2nd November 1998.

SCHEDULE — Provisions coming into operation on 2nd November 1998

Provision of the Order	Subject Matter
Article 55	Disabled persons' badges.
Article 56	Wrongful use of badge.
Article 75(2) so far as it relates to— the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons (Northern Ireland) Act 1978[^f00002]; and the provisions of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1981[^f00003] and Article 4 of the Disabled Persons (Northern Ireland) Order 1982[^f00004] relating to Article 174A of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1981[^f00005].	Repeals.

Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Order.)

This Order brings into operation on 2nd November 1998 the last remaining provisions of the Road Traffic Regulation (Northern Ireland) Order 1997 which deal with the disabled persons and consequential repeals.
