Coming into operation: 8th October 2007

The Department for Regional Development[^f00001] makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 28(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation (Northern Ireland) Order 1997[^f00002] and now vested in it[^f00003]:

Citation and commencement

These Regulations may be cited as The Traffic Signs (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2007 and shall come into operation on 8th October 2007.

The relative positions of the “no waiting” symbol and other legend in the upper panel may be as shown in diagram 639 or in the upper panel of diagram 640. The upper panel may be varied to diagram 650.2. The lower panel may be varied in a similar manner to diagram 661.1, or varied to diagram 660, 660.3, 660.4, 660.5, 660.6, 660.7, 661.2, 661.3, 661A or 662. The sign shown in diagram 638.1 may be added as a middle panel with the size of the legend as shown for diagram 639.1A. A code letter or letters, as shown in diagram 660.3, may be added and may be varied in the same way as indicated in item3 of the table below that diagram

3 Permitted variants: Schedule 16, items 11, 21, 22 “Permit holders” may be varied to “Resident permit holders”, “Business permit holders”, “Doctor permit holders”, “Card holders” or “Resident permit holder parking only past this point”. The number of panels in the left hand diagram may be varied. Each panel in the left hand diagram, other than the top panel, shall be in the form shown in the second or third panels from the top. In the third panel from the top, the legend “Permit holders A or” may be omitted. Where the “P” symbol only is shown in the top panel of the left hand diagram, it shall be centred horizontally on the sign. A code letter or letters, as shown in diagram 660.3, may be added and may be varied in the same way as indicated in item 3 of the table below that diagram

Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations further amend the Traffic Signs Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1997.

The principal amendments are to—

These Regulations have been notified to the European Commission pursuant to Directive 98/34/EC of 22nd June 1998 laying down a procedure for the provision of information in the field of technical standards and regulations and of rules on Information Society Services (O.J. No. L204, 21.07.98, p. 37-48) as amended by Directive 98/48/EC of 20th July 1998 (O.J. No. L217, 05.08.98, p. 18-26). Copies of the Directives can be obtained from The Stationery Office Bookshop, 16 Arthur Street, Belfast, BT1 4GD.
