The Rates (Amendment) (2016 Act) (Commencement No. 1) Order (Northern Ireland) 2016

The Department of Finance [^f00001] makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 6(1) of the Rates (Amendment) Act (Northern Ireland) 2016[^f00002].

Citation and interpretation

• (1) This Order may be cited as the Rates (Amendment) (2016 Act) (Commencement No. 1) Order (Northern Ireland) 2016.

• (2) In this Order “the 2016 Act” means the Rates (Amendment) Act (Northern Ireland) 2016.

Provisions coming into operation on 19th September 2016 for regulation-making purposes

19th September 2016 is the appointed day for the coming into operation of the following provisions of the 2016 Act—

• (a) section 1 (power for Department to increase rates reduction provided under Article 31 of the 1977 Order in certain cases); and

• (b) section 3 (window displays not to constitute occupation under the 1977 Order in certain cases),

for the purposes of making regulations.

Provisions coming into operation on 19th September 2016

19th September 2016 is the appointed day for the coming into operation of the following provisions of the 2016 Act—

• (a) section 4 (repeals); and

• (b) Schedule (repeals).

Provisions coming into operation on 1st October 2016

4

1st October 2016 is the appointed day for the coming into operation of section 2 (specified recreations: pigeon racing) of the 2016 Act.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order provides for the coming into operation of certain provisions of the Rates (Amendment) Act (Northern Ireland) 2016 (“the 2016 Act”).

The provisions of the 2016 Act set out in Article 2 come into operation on 19th September 2016 for regulation-making purposes.

The provisions of the 2016 Act set out in Article 3 come into operation on 19th September 2016.

The provision of the 2016 Act set out in Article 4 comes into operation on 1st October 2016.
