The Beef and Veal Labelling (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2018

Coming into operation: 17th December 2018

makes these Regulations in accordance with section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972.

Citation, commencement and interpretation

• (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Beef and Veal Labelling (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2018 and shall come into operation on 17th December 2018.

• (2) The Interpretation Act (Northern Ireland) 1954[^f00005] shall apply to these Regulations as it applies to an Act of the Northern Ireland Assembly.

Amendment of the Beef and Veal Labelling Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2010

• (1) The Beef and Veal Labelling Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2010[^f00006] are amended as follows.

• (2) In regulation 3—

• (a) after “Title II of Regulation 1760/2000”, insert “as last amended by Regulation (EU) 2016/429 of the European Parliament and of the Council[^f00007]”;

• (b) after “Commission Regulation 566/2008”, insert “as last amended by Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 565/2013[^f00008]”.

• (3) In regulation 5(1), omit sub-paragraphs (a) (vii) and (viii).

Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

EXPLANATORY NOTE

These Regulations amend the Beef and Veal Labelling Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2010 to update legislative references and to reflect provisions in Regulation (EU) No 652/2014 of the European Parliament and of the Council amending Regulation (EC) No 1760/2000 as regards electronic identification of bovine animals and labelling.

Regulation 2(2) (a) and (b) updates references to EU legislation by amending regulation 3 (The Competent Authority).

Regulation 2(3) removes the requirement for businesses to seek prior approval from the Department before labelling beef and veal with non-compulsory information by amending regulation 5 (Offences).
