The Damages for Bereavement (Variation of Sum) Order (Northern Ireland) 2022

Made: 6th October 2022

Coming into operation: 1st November 2022

The Department of Justice makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 3A(5) of the Fatal Accidents (Northern Ireland) Order 1977[^f00001] and now vested in the Department of Justice[^f00002].

Citation and commencement

• (1) This Order may be cited as the Damages for Bereavement (Variation of Sum) Order (Northern Ireland) 2022 and shall come into operation on 1st November 2022.

• (2) This Order applies only to causes of action which accrue on or after 1st November 2022.

Variation of sum

In Article 3A(3)[^f00003] of the Fatal Accidents (Northern Ireland) Order 1977, for “£15,100” substitute “£17,200”.

Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Order)

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order, which applies to causes of action accruing on or after 1st November 2022, amends Article 3A(3) of the Fatal Accidents (Northern Ireland) Order 1977 (S.I. 1977/1251 (N.I. 18)) increasing the sum which may be awarded for damages for bereavement in Northern Ireland from £15,100 to £17,200.
