In respect of items 1A and 2A, each lamp incorporated into the sign must show an intermittent amber light at a rate of flashing of not less than 60 nor more than 90 flashes per minute, and in such a manner that the lights of one horizontal pair are always illuminated when the lights of the other horizontal pair are not illuminated.

PART 4A — Provisions applying to signs in Part 4B

The information of a description in column 2 of an item in the sign table in Part 4B must be conveyed by a sign that is—

• (a) of the colour and type, and

• (b) complies with the requirements as to size,

shown in the diagram in column 3 of the item.

PART 4B — Signs and markings indicating a low emission zone

• (1) The distance may be varied.

• (2) A second distance may be added, in which case the word ‘and’ must be shown after the first distance.

When placed on a non-primary route the sign must be varied so that the background colour is white and the border, any legend and any symbol (other than the red border of the roundel) is black.

The numerals may be varied.

13A

The sign may only be placed—

• (a) to indicate or give warning of the point at which a recently imposed speed limit of 20 mph begins on a road; and

• (b) during the period of 12 months beginning with the day on which the 20 mph speed limit comes into force.

Zebra crossings placed across a minor road in the vicinity of a junction with a major road

25A

• (1) Sub-paragraph (2) applies where, but for this paragraph, these Regulations impose a requirement for there to be a Zebra controlled area.

• (2) Where a Zebra crossing is placed across a minor road in Wales in the vicinity of a junction with a major road, no Zebra controlled area is required and a yellow globe (provided for at item 27 of the sign table in Part 2 of this Schedule) is not required.

• (3) For the purposes of sub-paragraph (2)—

• (a) a minor road or a major road means a minor road or a major road for which the speed limit is 20 mph or lower;

• (b) a Zebra crossing is placed in the vicinity of a junction if there is a distance of no more than 5 metres between the limits of the crossing and either—

• (i) the road marking provided for at item 1 of the sign table in Part 6 of Schedule 9, or

• (ii) the nearest transverse line of the road marking provided for at item 3 of the sign table in Part 6 of Schedule 9.
