The Local Government Act 2000 (Commencement) (No. 2) (Wales) Order 2001
Made: 4th April 2001
The National Assembly for Wales makes the following Order in exercise of the powers given to it by section 108(6) of the Local Government Act 2000[^f00001].
Name and application

The name of this Order is the Local Government Act 2000 (Commencement) (No.2) (Wales) Order 2001 and it applies to Wales only.
Provisions coming into force on 9th April 2001

The following provisions of the Local Government Act 2000 shall come into force on 9th April 2001 —
- section 1 (meaning of “local authority” in Part I)
- section 2 (promotion of well-being)
- section 3(1), (2) and (8) (limits on power to promote well-being)
- section 4(1), (2) and (3)(a) (strategies for promoting well-being)
- section 5(1), (2), (3), (4) and (6) (power to amend or repeal enactments)
- section 6(1), (2), (3), (4), (5), (7) and (8) (power to modify enactments concerning plans etc.)
- section 8 (modification of section 137 of the 1972 Act)
- section 9 (procedure for orders under section 5 or 6)
- section 107(2) (minor and consequential amendments and repeals) to the extent that it relates to the repeals set out in Schedule 6 of —
- in section 25(8) of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976, the words from “Without prejudice ” to “inhabitants of its area”;
- in section 13 of the Inner Urban Areas Act 1978, the words “section 137(1) of the Local Government Act 1972 or”;
- section 11A(4) of the Housing Act 1985;
- and sections 34 and 35 of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.

Explanatory note
(This note does not form part of the Regulations)
This Order brings into force on 9th April 2001, in relation to Wales only, those provisions of Part I of the Local Government Act 2000 which are not yet in force and consequential repeals of various statutory provisions.
Part I of the Act is concerned with the promotion by local authorities of the economic, social and environmental well-being of their areas.
